New App Nabs Suspected Child Predator Within Hours Of Release

DETROIT (WWJ) - It didn't take long for an arrest after the roll-out of a new "Operation Predator" smartphone app to solicit information from the public about wanted child predators ... the roll-out from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.

Mark Robert Austin was arrested in the Flint area after several tips were called in to the ICE tip line.

Austin was charged with allegedly downloading more than 100 images and nearly a dozen videos of child pornography.

He is currently being held on state charges of distribution of marijuana.

The "Operation Predator" app will allow users to receive alerts about suspected child sex predators, share the information with friends via email and social media, and submit tips.

The app is available from Apple's App Store or iTunes, and ICE is working on expanding its' compatibility with other smartphones.
