U-M Athletics Behind ‘Go Blue’ Skywriting

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The University of Michigan athletics department paid a company to write “Go Blue” Saturday over the school’s Ann Arbor campus and above rival Michigan State University.

Oregon Aero SkyDancer co-owner Suzanne Asbury-Oliver tells MLive.com for a story Thursday that the skywriting above both campuses was “a multi-thousand-dollar job.”

“Go Blue” is a University of Michigan slogan. The school’s colors are maize and blue.

Michigan athletics spokesman Dave Ablauf says skywriters were hired “to canvas southeast Michigan with slogans” but no specific locations were targeted.

The message was written prior to Michigan State’s home football game against Youngstown State in East Lansing.

MSU Alumni Association Executive Director Scott Westerman used the message to encourage people to donate money to fight cancer. He also challenged Michigan alumni to match it.
