Consumers In Metro Detroit Line Up For New iPhone

DETROIT (WWJ) What was all the excitement about in metro Detroit Friday morning?

The new Apple iPhones on sale had people lined up before stores opened to get their hands on the gadgets.

Apple die-hards like Detroiter Charlene Harris knew exactly what she wanted.

"I'm trying to find an iPhone in (the color) champagne," Harris said animatedly. "The AT&T store had it in grey, but I'm a female, I want champagne."

Harris was unable to find the 32 gigabyte, AT&T model she wanted at the Best Buy in Westland during a second attempt.

"It's not like I don't have a phone that works," Harris said. "So, I'll just have to be patient."

In Troy, a couple hundred people packed into the Somerset Collection, including Laura Varon Brown, who was at the head of the line. Brown she had to come Friday because she's going on a trip and her old phone was dying.

"They delivered us coffee and water for free and there's nice people around you," Brown said. "You know, iPhone users are really nice, so it's been kind of fun. I tried to get one of my kids to do it for me, but they wouldn't."

She was hoping to get the gold iPhone 5S, but they had already ran out of that color. The Apple staff told the crowd that everyone in line will get a phone.
