Leach’s Lists: DTM’S Bagels And Lox Week 3 NFL
By: Dan Leach
As the NFL season heats up so does the DTM Prediction machine, which will be here for you each and every week to help you win your pick-em-pool, embarrass your friends, and just become a more whole football fan and human being. I will take a look at five games each week with the best value and rate them on a sliding “Bagels and Lox” 1-10 scale. The fun continues…….
GREEN BAY AT CINCINNATI 1PM EST TV FOX (GREEN BAY -3)
Not only have the Packers had major defensive struggles all season long, now they have a RB problem with starter and rookie Eddie “Tie the Shoe” Lacy having concussion problems. They go into Cincy, one of the AFC favorites to make it to SB 48 and are a way over-inflated 3 point road favorite. The Bengals didn’t look like world beaters in their MNF win over a bad Steelers team, but those divisional games are always tough and they will be fired up to take on one of the so-called NFC favorite in the Queen City. The Bengals have too many weapons on offense against a soft Packers D. Look for a big game out of rookie TE Tyler Eifert as well as the amazing A.J Green.

TAMPA BAY AT NEW ENGLAND 1 PM EST TV FOX (PATS -7)
7 and 3 are the key numbers in the NFL as I have always told you and there is a reason as around 38% of games in any given year hit those magic numbers . This game is no different as a flailing Pats team who has simply looked putrid on offense so far this year hosts a Bucs team that is 0-2, but played both the opening losses down to the wire. There are reports of a literal and figurative (pirate ship in Bucs stadium couldn’t be more apropos) mutiny in T.B as second year coach Greg Schiano seems days not weeks away from getting his plank papers. Bucs QB Josh Freeman has also made it clear he would like to get out of dodge so in a way this is an all in game for the Bucs against a team that isn’t scaring anyone offensively. Pats likely win this one, but it will be razor close.

INDIANAPOLIS AT SAN FRANCISCO 4:25 PM EST TV CBS (NINERS -10)
From the outsider this looks like it could be a romp by the angry and embarrassed Niners, but in the great words of Lee Corso not…so…fast….my friend. The Colts might have struggled through two games, but this is still a good football team led by a QB in Andrew “Pot Luck Dinner” who is going to be one of the best in the game for a long time. The Colts just got former Browns RB in the biggest head scratching trades since Mike Ditka traded his whole team for Ricky Williams and a hot air balloon. How T Rich affects the Colts offense right away is anyone’s guess, but giving the Colts, a playoff team last year that just got better, that many points against a Niners team that was blasted by divisional mate Seattle last week is insanity. The Niners are my favorite to get to the Super Bowl from the NFC, but so often early in the season teams that are great at the end struggle and I think that continues by the Bay as Indy keeps it close throughout and I would not be shocked at all if they won this game straight up and Colin Kaepernick is due for some minor growing pains on his way to taking over the league.

DETROIT AT WASHINGTON 1PM EST TV FOX (SKINS -1)
Yes the Lions haven’t beaten the Skins on the road since they played in Boston during the Tea Party era. Yews the Lions just lost to an inferior AZ team on the road in another place they never can win. But when a team simply can’t stop anybody that changes all the trends. The Skins might have one of the most exciting players in the game, but RG3 is still not fully back from the ACL injury and even his own teammates have said that publicly. The Skins have been outscored 50-7 in the first half so far this year and have been lucky to make games respectable in the second half against soft defenses. The Skins will be desperate, but when your bad desperate only gets you so much as the Lions are hungry to clear some evil cobwebs from their bad history in D.C as well and will move the ball at will with or without Reggie Reggie Reggie Bush. Look for the Lions to control it from the start, not look back, and when the final gun sounds will party like it’s the FDR administration!
7.4 BAGELS AND LOX ON THE LIONS +1
OAKLAND AT DENVER 8:40 PM EST MONDAY NIGHT TV ESPN (DENVER -15.5)
I have been telling you for a while now that the Raiders are going to be a lot better than people thought and yes it was just a crushing win over the CFL’s, I mean AFL’s , I mean Pop Warner impersonation of a team in the Jaguars. The Raiders did something though they have rarely done in recent years, not hurt themselves and win dominantly. The Broncos are very good as they have shown in their first two romps over the Ravens and G-Men, but I really like what I am seeing from Raiders QB and everyone’s favorite tattoo concierge Terrelle Pryor. The Raiders D has been playing well and the offense is tremendously undervalued with a healthy Run DMC and WR’s in Denarius Moore and Rod Streater who have been extremely productive for the Silver and Black. Appliance Factory will not have to worry about giving away free fridges and dishwashers (http://www.ballerstatus.com/2013/09/20/company-offers-free-appliances-broncos-shut-raiders/) cause the Raiders will absolutely not be shut out and I think this game could really come down to it as Peyton Manning is going to be tested for the first time this season and the Raiders are going to show they actually have a football team this year.
