Lidstrom Commits To Detroit-Toronto Alumni Game
DETROIT (AP) — Former Red Wings star Nicklas Lidstrom is among the players expected on the ice for an alumni game between Detroit and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The alumni doubleheader is Dec. 31 at Comerica Park, the home of baseball's Detroit Tigers. It's part of a series of games leading up to the NHL's Winter Classic on Jan. 1 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor featuring the Red Wings and the Maple Leafs.
Lidstrom was a seven-time winner of the Norris Trophy, which goes to the league's best defenseman.
Dozens of players have committed play in the alumni games, including Igor Larionov, Brendan Shanahan, Kirk Maltby, Dino Ciccarelli, Darren McCarty, Kris Draper and Chris Chelios. Gordie Howe and Vladimir Konstantinov are among those expected to attend.
