HOUGHTON (AP) - It took a lot of rolling, but Michigan Technological University students now have a Guinness World Records mark to their name.

The school in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula says about 30 students pitched in to make a snowball with a circumference of 32.94 feet. The March 29 effort took more than two hours. This week, a certificate noting it as the world’s largest came in from Guinness.

Two licensed surveyors earlier verified the snowball’s size. Houghton, where the school is located, gets lots of snow in the winter.

Parshwa Patwa, a third-year mechanical engineering student, organized the effort to break the record that had been held by Dartmouth College. He recorded the feat on video, and estimates were made putting the snowball’s weight at three or four tons.
