Sheriff's Office: Drunk Man Leads Deputies On Chase

PONTIAC (WWJ) - Authorities say a Waterford Township man's blood alcohol level was more than four times the legal limit when he was arrested Tuesday morning.

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies were trying to pull the 34-year old man over at State St. and Johnson in downtown Pontiac, just before 1 a.m.

He allegedly drove off, and deputies pursued, until the man crashed into a parked car, and then a landscaping boulder, in the parking lot of the Bloomfield on the River apartment complex on Telegraph Road, north of M-59.

Sheriff's officials say the man got out of his damaged car and tried to run, but was caught a short time later.  He was arrested and taken to McLaren Oakland hospital for observation due his blood alcohol level of 0.35 — which well above the legal limit of 0.08.

The man was expected to be charged with fleeing and eluding and operating while intoxicated, first degree.

His name was not immediately released.

No one was injured.
