Pedestrian Killed While Walking Along Telegraph Road

LASALLE TWP. (WWJ) - Police say a 37-year-old man who was walking along Telegraph Road while talking on a cellphone died after being struck by a vehicle.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, the accident happened just after 12 a.m. Saturday on southbound Telegraph near N. Otter Creek Road in LaSalle Township.

Police say a 23-year-old Monroe man was driving on Telegraph when he struck Leo Steinman II, of LaSalle Township.

Steinman was reportedly walking southbound on Telegraph Road within the travel lane, while using a cellular telephone, according to police.

After the collision, police say Steinman came to rest along the west shoulder of the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was not injured.

Police say neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
