"Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2" Takes The Weekend Box Office
LOS ANGELES (WWJ/AP) - "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2" is number one at the weekend box office.
The animated Sony sequel opened in first place, taking in $35 million in its opening weekend. That's according to studio estimates Sunday. The original "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" nabbed $30.3 million during its opening weekend in 2009.
In second place is last week's top film, "Prisoners," starring Hugh Jackman, Terrence Howard, Viola Davis and Jake Gyllenhaal, which made $11.2 million in its second weekend.
Universal's Formula One tale "Rush," directed by Ron Howard, took the number three position with $10.3 million.
Fox's "Baggage Claim," featuring an ensemble cast led by Paula Patton, opened in fourth place with $9.3 million, with Relativity's "Don Jon" rounding out the top five with $9 million.
