Consumers Energy Preps For Winter With “Storm Units”
JACKSON, Mich. (WWJ) – It’s not winter yet, but it’ll be here sooner or later.
Prior to Old Man Winter unleashing his fury and the loss of power that often accompanies it, Consumers Energy is unveiling a new tool to help crews get the power back on during those powerful winter storms. Spokesman Ben Felton says three 18-wheelers called “storm units” will be packed with supplies that repair crews often run out of.
“Anytime that they have to delay because of moving back to a headquarters or waiting for material, that’s time that our customers are seeing in a duration standpoint, that we just can’t tolerate,” Felton said.
The trucks will have enough coils of wire, cross arms and hardware to service 50 Consumers Energy trucks. The trucks will be stationed in Grand Rapids, Cadillac and Jackson.
