WID-Michigan to Honor Teresa Takai at 5th Annual Black Tie Gala: At its upcoming 5th Annual Black Tie Gala, Women in Defense Michigan (WID-Michigan) will honor its 2013 Excellence In Leadership award recipient, Teresa (Teri) M. Takai, chief information officer, Department of Defense. It will also honor winners of its Horizon Industry Awards, Junior Horizons Award and Horizon-Michigan Scholarships. WID-Michigan's 5th Annual Black Tie Gala will be held on Friday, November 8, 2013, and the Royal Park Hotel in Rochester. Tickets are available online. Takai is the Department of Defense chief information officer. She serves as the principal advisor to the Secretary of Defense for Information Management/Information Technology and Information Assurance as well as non-intelligence space systems, critical satellite communications, navigation, and timing programs, spectrum and telecommunications. Takai's past experience includes serving as director of the Michigan Department of Information Technology, where she also served as the state's CIO. During her tenure at the MDIT, she led the state to being ranked number one four years in a row in digital government by the Center for Digital Government. At its Annual Black Tie Gala, WID-Michigan will also honor recipients of 2013 Horizon Industry Awards, Junior Horizons Award, and Horizon-Michigan Scholarships. WID-Michigan Horizon Industry Awards are given to leading businesses in three categories: Product Development, Business Development, and Innovation. Horizon-Michigan Scholarships encourage women to pursue careers related to the support of the national security and defense interests of the United States, and provide development opportunities to women already working in these fields. WID-Michigan is a non-profit professional networking and development organization for women and men across Michigan who contribute to national defense and security. Formed in 2007, WID-Michigan strengthens and influences the defense and national security industries by inspiring women, cultivating leadership, and growing professional relationships.
