DETROIT (CBS Detroit) First came photos of Kate Upton out and about — in full view of the paparazzi — holding hands with her new man Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
And then she posed, sexily, of course, on the latest cover of Sports Illustrated in an Atlanta Braves jersey for the MLB playoff preview issue. It’s the first time SI has ever put a swimsuit model on the cover, reports say. See a photo gallery and video of the shoot HERE.
Was it meant as a dagger to poor Justin Verlander’s heart? The 21-year-old supermodel was spotted at games, concerts and local bars with Verlander last year; canoodling was reported.
The Sports Illustrated cover follows Kate’s outing last week with Chmerkovskiy of “Dancing With The Stars,” where they were seen walking hand-in-hand in New York’s West Village. Chmerkovskiy also attended her birthday party, and the pair were spotted on what looked like a vacation together in the Hamptons.
Now, in addition to officially not dating Kate and having to see her splashed on magazine covers in an opponents’ jersey, Verlander is also not starting in the Tigers’ playoffs rotation. Always classy, Verlander told CBS Detroit’s Ashley Dunkak Tuesday he wouldn’t let his ego get in the way of applauding teammate Max Scherzer, who was chosen to start the playoffs.
“I’m a team player. You put your ego aside, you fight for a single goal,” he said. “This is our family, and I went up to Max (Scherzer) and told him congratulations. He’s earned it. He absolutely has. He’s had an unbelievable season.”
So, what do you think — will Upton’s Braves cover shake Verlander’s confidence?
