Mom Charged In Death Of 2-Month Old Daughter

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - Several months after the death of a newborn at a Royal Oak Township motel, charges have been filed against the infant's mother.

Destiny Thomas has been charged with second and 4th degree child abuse in connection with the death of her two month old baby girl back in February.

Royal Oak Police Lt. David Clemens says the mother is accused of not properly caring for the child after the medical examiner's determined the cause of death was broncho-pneumonia and malnourishment.

"Cases of this nature sometimes take some time because the medical examiners office is involved as well. And just the ... forensic process that they go through sometimes takes a quite a while to complete," said Lt. Clemens.

Thomas is jailed on $50,000 bond and is due back in court next week.
