Traffic Alert: Weekend Road Work
DETROIT (WWJ) - Know before you go! Road work crews are expected to be out in full force across metro Detroit this weekend.
The following projects were announced by MDOT. As always, some of this work may be postponed due to weather.
TOTAL CLOSURE
I-696:
In Oakland and Macomb counties, eastbound I-696 will be closed from I-75 to Mound Road starting at 8 p.m. Friday and ending by 5 a.m. Monday for pavement repair. The posted detour directs drivers south on I-75 to eastbound 8 Mile to northbound Mound Road back to eastbound I-696.
From Mound Road to Schoenherr Highway, eastbound I-696 will have a single lane open. This full closure is weather dependent.
In addition, the following entrance ramps to eastbound I-696 will be closed:
- Hoover Road
- Van Dyke Ave
- Dequindre Road
- 11 Mile Road
- Northbound and southbound I-75
- Bermuda Road
- Woodward Avenue
- Coolidge Highway
LANE CLOSURES
I-75:
In Oakland County, the left two lanes of southbound I-75 will be closed overnight from Square Lake to 12 Mile roads starting at 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and ending at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday for pavement repair.
In Wayne County, a double lane closure on southbound I-75 at Dearborn Street starting at 9 p.m. Friday and ending by 5 a.m. Monday for bridge repairs.
I-94:
In Macomb County, eastbound I-94 will be reduced to a single lane from 11 Mile Road to Masonic Boulevard - weekend work in this area will start, weather permitting, on Saturday. In addition, the ramp from eastbound I-696 to eastbound I-94 will be reduced to a single lane.
I-96:
In Oakland County, westbound I-96 will be reduced to a single lane from Novi to Kent Lake roads from 8 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday for ongoing resurfacing.
M-153 (Ford Road):
In Wayne County, eastbound and westbound Ford Road will have two lanes closed between Wyoming Avenue and Chase Road (east Dearborn) during the overnight hours starting at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and ending by 6 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Beginning the week of Monday, Oct. 7:
I-75:
In Detroit, the left lane of northbound and southbound I-75 will be closed daily from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday for maintenance work.
In Detroit, the northbound and southbound I-75 service drives under 8 Mile Road will be closed for pavement repair starting at 9 a.m. Monday and ending Oct. 18 for extensive pavement repair. No left turns will be allowed, all service drive traffic will have to turn right onto 8 Mile Road.
In Oakland County, double lane closures on southbound I-75 from Square Lake to 12 Mile roads nightly starting at 8 p.m. and ending by 5 a.m., beginning Monday and ending Friday for pavement repair.
I-94:
In Detroit, the eastbound I-94 exit to Russell Street will be closed daily starting at 9 a.m. and ending by 3 p.m. beginning Wednesday, Oct. 9 and ending Wednesday, Oct 16 for paving.
I-96:
In Oakland County, westbound I-96 will have double lane closures nightly from Novi to Kent Lake roads starting at 9 p.m. and ending by 5 a.m. the following mornings beginning Monday and ending Thursday.
M-39 (Southfield Road):
In Wayne County, the right lane of southbound M-39 will be closed at Fox Street starting at 9 a.m. Monday and ending by 3 p.m. Friday for utility repairs.
