Drivers: Steer Clear Of This Busy Macomb County Intersection

CLINTON TWP., Mich. (WWJ) - A busy Macomb County intersection is closed -- at least through the Monday morning rush hour -- following an overnight crash that knocked down traffic signals.

The accident occurred at the corner of Harper and 15 Mile Road, not far from the I-94/Harper interchange. All four sides of the intersection have been barricaded, and traffic is limited to the parking lots of two gas stations, which are being used to get around the closure.

WWJ's Ron Dewey reports from the scene that a car blew through the corner and took out a utility pole that was holding up a series of traffic lights. Those lights are now dangling just above the pavement.

Macomb County Road Commission crews are currently utilizing a cherry picker, trying to untangle the mess. There's no word yet on how long it'll take before crews are able to make the necessary repairs. As a result, Dewey says drivers may want to find an alternate route; at least through the morning rush hour.
