Detroit Orchestra Takes On Tigers Theme Song

DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Symphony Orchestra is providing some classical cheerleading for the Detroit Tigers during the playoffs.

The ensemble — with help from the Detroit Children's Choir — performed "Go Get 'Em Tigers" Sunday during a concert. A recording of it is expected to be shown on Comerica Park's big screen Tuesday during Game 4 of the American League division series against the Oakland Athletics.

The Tigers' theme song when they won the World Series in 1968 — and in 2006 when they took their division — was arranged two years ago by orchestra librarians.

The performance features musicians and singers donning Tigers caps. Covered heads include conductor Leonard Slatkin, who got the, um, ball rolling by mentioning his desire to add a fight song to his repertoire.
