Inmate Uses Pregnancy, Kool-Aid In Plot To Escape

HOWELL (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a woman used her pregnancy, and a sugary drink mix, as a way to try to escape from the Livingston County jail.

According to Sheriff Bob Bezotte, Ray Lynn Dennis-Sessions used Kool-Aid to pretend she was bleeding due to pregnancy complications.

"Through the commissary, the inmates can get Kool-Aid, and she got red Kool-Aid and made it look like she was bleeding," Bezotte told WWJ Newsradio 950's Kathryn Larson.

Deputies took the Fowlerville resident to University of Michigan hospital where a doctor concluded she was fine and had been faking distress.

Bezotte says Dennis-Sessions, who is six months pregnant, planned to use the hospital visit as a way to escape.  He said, through jail intel, authorities learned she was plotting to make a getaway with her husband.

"Actually, we knew about the plan when we went down there, so we took extra police officers and we notified Washtenaw County," Bezotte said, "so, we had quite a bit of security in and out of the hospital."

Dennis-Sessions already is in trouble, having pleaded guilty to delivering meth and operating a meth lab. As a habitual offender, she faces life in prison when she's sentenced Nov. 21.

Dennis-Sessions is now under investigation for filing a false report and conspiracy to escape.
