Detroit V. Boston In Blood Donation Challenge

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit is squaring off against Boston for Major League Baseball's American League Championship, but we're battling Beantown for even higher stakes off the field.

Bridget Tuohey, with Detroit's American Red Cross, said the Tigs may have beaten Oakland on the field, but As fans gave 72 more pints of blood during last week's blood challenge.

Beginning Saturday, Oct. 12, Tuohey says Tiger fans have another chance, this time against Boston, to see which city can collect the most blood donations during the ALCS.

"Whether it ends on Wednesday or it goes all the way through next Sunday, we're counting every single unit of blood collected," Tuohey said.

Blood donations are at their lowest levels in 15 years, but you can help Detroit clinch the battle that makes the most difference by giving the gift of life.
