Man's Partially Eaten Body Found In Detroit Home

DETROIT (WWJ) - An investigation is underway following a gruesome discovery on Detroit's northwest side.

Detroit police say, when 50-year-old Rodney Tyrone Brandon was found dead in his home it appeared his body had been partially devoured by an animal.

"... There was a large dog that was in the house that may have contributed to eating his leg off," Sgt. Michael Woody told WWJ Newsradio 950.

Brandon had not been seen by family for over a week when his decomposing body was discoverer by relatives, Monday afternoon.

The man's dog was found locked in a bathroom, and police are still trying to work out exactly what transpired.

However, as far as how Brandon died, an autopsy has ruled out foul play.

"The pathologists are actually very confident that this was a natural death," said Mary Mazur with the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office.

"As for the question mark regarding the animal — the pet dog — well, that still remains to be solved," she said, "It's still a mystery."

Mazur said Brandon suffered from hypertension and other maladies.

The dog was taken into custody.
