Students Hospitalized After School Bus Crash

ONSTED (WWJ) - Several students have been taken to the hospital after their school bus crashed in Lenawee County.

The Lenawee County Sheriff Office said the accident happened around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday at US-223 and Onsted Highway.

Officials say 17 students from Onsted Community Schools district were on the bus when it crashed, ranging from elementary to high school age.

Stephen Head, principal of Onsted Middle School, said 11 of those students were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries as a precaution.

"Initial reports indicate that it was a vehicle that struck another vehicle, that ended up in the pass of our school bus which was traveling on US-223," Head told WWJ's Laura Bonnell.

Immediately after the accident, Head said administrators sent a school-wide text to all parents notifying them of what happened.

Head said the injured students are all expected to recover.

"The bus driver is shaken up, obviously, but we are in contact with parents and it sounds like our kids are going to be OK," he said.

An investigation is ongoing.
