Couple Enter Pleas In 1-Year-Old Son's Drowning

FLINT (WWJ/AP) - A 29-year-old Flint man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of his 1-year-old son who drowned this spring in a bathtub.

The Flint Journal reports that Jeremy Wise entered his plea Friday and that the boy's 19-year-old mother, Callie Csercsa, pleaded no contest to second-degree child abuse.

Their pleas call for five years of probation for each. Wise is to receive one year in jail. Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 18.

Aden Wise was found face-down May 20 in the tub. Prosecutors have said the boy was left unattended while the couple fought.

Csercsa had iniitally told investigators the boy was in the living room when she put his bath toys and the drain plug in the tub. She told police the water wasn't running when she left the bathroom, and she was distracted by an argument with her boyfriend about a text message she'd received. Aden was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

A judge dismissed second-degree murder charges in August.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said "the pleas are appropriate in light of the fact the judge dismissed the murder charges."
