Police: Suspect Killed While Robbing Pizza Guy

REDFORD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Police say a man was fatally shot while robbing a pizza delivery driver.

Redford Township Police Capt. James Turner said it happened Monday night in the area of 7 Mile Road and Gaylord in Redford Township.

Police say during the armed robbery, one of the suspects was shot and later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

An investigation is ongoing, and Redford Township police are not releasing any names or further details at this time.

This incident comes amid calls in Detroit and some suburbs to arm pizza delivery drivers. Last year, a Jets Pizza franchise in Dearborn announced it would no longer deliver to Detroit after dark after a 19-year-old delivery driver was shot.

In August, a young Flint man convicted in the fatal shooting of a pizza delivery man was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Weighing in on WWJ Newsradio 950's Facebook page, many say pizza delivery people should carry guns.

Michael Stemmler commented: "Yes! They should be allowed. So should Bus drivers, Taxi drivers, Tow truck drivers..."

Jim Hope said: "Yes! If their employer allows it. Get trained and exercise your right to carry."

"Don't deliver pizza in Flint without one," added Russ Palmer. [Join the conversation HERE].
