March, Rally, Vigil Planned For Slain EMU Player

YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) — Students plan a march, rally and candlelight vigil for slain Eastern Michigan University football player Demarius Reed.

The school says the "Increase the Peace" events begin Thursday afternoon on its Ypsilanti campus.

The 20-year-old communications major from Chicago was shot multiple times last Friday in what police say may have been a robbery. The Ann Arbor News reports a reward for information in the case has been doubled to $10,000.

On Wednesday, school President Susan Martin told students that representatives from the university, Ypsilanti police and the Washtenaw County sheriff's department could use joint patrols to increase off-campus safety.

Reed played in six games this season, catching 15 passes for 181 yards and a touchdown. Visitation for Reed is this Friday in Chicago. His funeral is Saturday in Harvey, Ill.
