Boy, 11, Killed In Car Crash On Way To School

BRANCH TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - An 11-year-old West Michigan boy has been killed after his 16-year-old sister lost control of their vehicle on a slippery road and crashed while driving to school.

Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole tells the Ludington Daily News that Garrett Lake appears to have been killed instantly when roof of the vehicle struck a tree about 7:45 a.m. Friday and was crushed.

Jordan Lake had to be cut from car on U.S. 10 in Branch Township, about 60 miles southwest of Traverse City. She suffered minor injuries and was flown to a hospital. Their 13-year-old sister, McKenna Lake, also was hurt in the crash and hospitalized.

Authorities say Jordan was driving the siblings to Mason County Eastern school. The school planned to have counselors available Friday to speak with students.
