'Reckless' Shootings In Inkster Leave 3 Hospitalized

INKSTER (WWJ) - Inkster police say three people were shot in two separate incidents that left several homes and cars littered with bullet holes.

Police say a man was shot while sitting in his car near the corner of Hopkins and Bayhan avenues around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. The victim is reportedly hospitalized in good condition.

Then, around 3:30 a.m., police received several calls of multiple shots being fired in the area of Oakwood and Henry Ruff streets. One resident in the area said he was awakened by what sounded like automatic gunfire literally being fired from outside his window. Another resident said she clearly heard shots being fired from two different weapons.

Two men who claim to have been shot in the second incident apparently drove themselves to a nearby hospital for treatment. One victim is reportedly in good condition, while the other is in critical condition.

Reporting live from the scene, WWJ's Ron Dewey said glass covered the ground where the back windows of at least two cars were shot out. He also said police were marking several bullet holes on nearby homes.

The crime scenes are about four miles apart, and police are investigating whether the two incidents are related.

Inkster Police Chief Hilton Napoleon called the shootings "reckless," saying additional victims could have been hit by stray bullets.

No arrests have been made.
