SBA Honors Emerging Leaders At Nov. 6 Graduation Ceremony

DETROIT (WWJ) -- The U.S. Small Business Administration will honor the participants of its Emerging Leaders Initiative at a graduation ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Detroit Branch, 1600 East Warren Ave., Detroit.

The Emerging Leaders program is targeted to inner-city businesses that demonstrate a high potential for growth. Selected companies participated in a free, six month course of in-depth business education focused on areas such as organizational management, growth strategies, market development and strategic planning.

Eight businesses from Detroit completed the program and will be honored at the graduation ceremony include the following:
• Catalyst Management Group, Leon Brown
• Centric Design Studio, Saundra Little
• DCR Services and Construction LLC, Dwight Belyue
• H&K Janitorial Services, Patricia Takeda-Keranen
• Maxwell Dunn PLC, Ethan Dunn
• Merit Hall Construction Staffing, Alex Riley
• Roth Electric,Jeff Swartz
• W.T. Stevens Construction Inc., Beverly Greenwood

SBA partners played an important role in this collaborative effort and include Automation Alley, the Center for Empowerment and Economic Development, the Detroit Economic Growth Corp., the Detroit Regional Chamber, the Michigan Black Chamber of Commerce, the Michigan Economic Development Corp., the Michigan Minority Business Development Council, the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center, SCORE and TechTown.

Speakers at the event are to include Nancy Grose, Emerging Leaders Program Manager, Michigan SBA District Office; Derrin Leppek, Managing Director, Placed Based Entrepreneurship, TechTown, Gerald Moore, Michigan SBA District Director, Constance Logan, Michigan SBA Deputy District Director, Marina Houghton, Wolinski & Co., CPA and 2012 Graduate and Patricia Takeda-Keranen, H&K Janitorial Services, Class of 2013.
