Snyder Proclaims November 'Hire A Veteran Month'

LANSING (AP) - Gov. Rick Snyder has declared November "Hire a Veteran Month" in Michigan.

In a statement Thursday, the governor also announced a series of career fairs for veterans.

Called "Operation Vet Connection 2013," the fairs will take place next week. More than 100 Michigan businesses have registered to participate.

The events are free for veterans, and registration isn't required. Veterans who attend should bring a current resume, transcripts or training records and a photo ID.

Snyder says he wants Michigan employers to consider veterans when making hiring decisions and to help returning veterans make the transition from military service to employment.

In the statement, Snyder says "the returning heroes bring real-world work experience and transferrable skills to the job."
