Woman Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are investigating whether or not alcohol was involved in a deadly hit-and-run accident on the city's lower east side.

The accident happened around 3 a.m. Thursday at corner of Alter Road and Mack Avenue, near the city's border with Grosse Pointe.

Police say a van smashed into the side of an SUV, killing a woman who was a passenger in the SUV. Investigators declined to present additional details, including the victim's name.

After the collision, the driver of the van reportedly left the scene on foot. About an hour later and a mile away from the crash site, police were able to catch up with the suspect, who reportedly showed signs that he was intoxicated.

The other driver was uninjured.

An investigation is ongoing.
