Roadwork To Begin On Metro Detroit Freeways This Weekend

If you're a commuter in the metro Detroit area, start planning to possibly reroute your daily drive.

Two bridge replacement projects along the I-94 corridor in Detroit are close to wrapping up. The stretch of I-94 between Gratiot and Michigan Ave. will see both directions of traffic tied up as crews plan to have the freeway restricted to a single lane with on-and-off complete closures starting a 9 p.m. Friday until early Monday morning.

Plan to use I-696 instead for your crosstown commute.

I-94 will be worked on eastbound between Michigan Ave. and M-10 and westbound from Gratiot to the I-75 interchange. Eastbound motorists can use I-96 instead and westbounder travelers will want to use I-696 to I-75.

Also, near Howell, crews are making progress on the brand new interchange. A continuous lane closure is planned on eastbound I-96 near the Latson Rd. interchange, just west of the Grand River Ave. is expected to begin as early as Monday morning. ramps near mile marker 141 is expected to open to traffic by the end of the year.
