Jose Iglesias Named Tigers Rookie Of The Year By The DSBA

DETROIT- Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias was named the Tigers Rookie of the Year by the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association today.

Iglesias batted .259 (35x135) with six doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI in 46 games with the Tigers after being acquired from the Red Sox on July 30. He finished the season batting .303 (106x350) with 16 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 29 RBI in 109 games between the Red Sox and Tigers.

Iglesias led the American League with 35 infield hits, while he was tied for second with 10 bunt hits. He finished the season ranked second among all American League rookies with 106 hits and 31 multi-hit games, while he was sixth with 39 runs scored.

Iglesias will be presented with his award prior to a 2014 Tigers home game at Comerica Park. The Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association has selected a Tigers Rookie of the Year since 1969.
