FREE Stuff For Veterans, Troops On Veterans Day

DETROIT (WWJ) - There may be no better way to show our appreciation to those who have served in the military and to active U.S. service members than with free stuff.

Here's a rundown of some of the places offering freebies to troops and veterans on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013:

Free All You Can Eat Hotcakes At Bob Evans: Veterans and active military personnel will receive free all-you-can-eat hotcakes at Bob Evans restaurants on Veterans Day.  Guests must provide proof of service, including: U.S. Uniform Services Identification Card, U.S. Uniform Services Retired Identification Card, Current Leave and Earnings Statement (LES), Wearing uniform, or Veterans Organization Card (i.e., American Legion and VFW). "These dedicated men and women have served us, now we're proud to serve them a free breakfast on Veteran's Day," says President of Bob Evans Restaurants Randy Hicks. "We're grateful for their service to country and a heaping stack of hotcakes is our way of saying thank you."

Free Mac n' Cheez From Sweet Lorraine'sVeterans and those men and women currently serving in the military who present a valid ID will receive a FREE Classic Mac  with Chef Lorraine's own "ooey gooey" extra sharp cheese sauce tossed with fresh cooked noodles, topped with shredded cheddar cheese and melted until fabulous! "We want to honor the dedication and commitment of our veterans and those men and women serving in the military for all that they gave and continue to give in order to preserve the freedoms we all share," said Chef Lorraine Platman.

Free Tubby's Subs: Tubby's Sub Shops is offering all veterans and active duty military (with a military ID or DD-214) a free 6-inch Grilled Steak n' Cheese or Tubby's Famous Sub. "Tubby's wants to do everything we can to assist our veterans.  "Without the work of these fine men and women, we wouldn't be able to enjoy the many freedoms we have," said executive vice president Bill Kiryakoz. Free Detroit Zoo AdmissionThe Detroit Zoo is offering free admission to all active and retired military with ID on Monday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day. "We're grateful to the men and women who keep our nation safe and thank them for their service," said Detroit Zoo Director Ron Kagan.

Visitors will find that autumn is the perfect time to visit the Detroit Zoo. As the temperature drops, many of the animals become more active outdoors, including the polar bears, tigers, wolverines, elk and bison. In addition, red panda twins Meriadoc and Gansu – born in June – are easier to spot now that the leaves have fallen in their wooded habitat. [Zoo hours and information]

Free Entree At Hayden's Grill and Bar: Enjoy a free meal with proof of service, up to $13.99.  "We are happy to bring this offer back again this year.  It's a small way we can attempt to repay all of those in our community who have fought and are fighting for our country" said Hayden's Grill and Bar owner Brent Skaggs.

Einstein Bros Bagels: Free Bagel and Shmear, or any other topping, to all active, inactive and retired military personnel.

Famous Dave's: Participating restaurants are offering a free two meat salute. (Free Two Meat Combo with valid military id) Call ahead to your local Famous Dave's to verify.

Hooters: All veterans and current servicemen and women to enjoy a free meal, up to $10.99 in value with any drink purchase, by presenting a military ID or proof of service at any Hooters location across the country.

Friendly's: A complimentary Big-Two-Do breakfast and coffee on Veteran's Day.

Golden Corral: All veterans receive a free dinner from 4-9 p.m.

Joann Fabric: Through Friday, Nov. 15, past or present members of the armed forces, as well as their families, will receive 20 percent off their total purchase including regular-, sale-priced and clearance items.

Krispy Kreme: Free donut and free coffee at participating locations.

Little Caesars Free Crazy Bread for U.S. Veterans.

Max & Erma's: Free "Best Cheeseburger in America" with a choice of soup or salad and fresh-baked chocolate chip cookie.

Olive Garden: Free meal from a special menu. Family dining with them will receive 10% off their meal.

On The Border Mexican Grill & CantinaFREE OTB's "Create Your Own Combo menu," featuring more than 150 possible dinner combinations.

Outback Steakhouse: Free bloomin' onion and beverage on Veterans Day.

Red Robin Free Tavern Double Burger and Bottomless Steak Fries.

Starbucks: Free tall brewed coffee for veterans, active duty military and their spouses in participating U.S. company-owned stores.

Texas Roadhouse: Veterans and active members receive free lunch from a special menu.

TGI Friday's: Free lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tim Hortons: Free Star Spangled Vanilla Dip donut adorned with star-shaped sprinkles. No purchase is necessary, veterans need to either be in uniform or show their military ID.

Walgreens: Vets and service members will receive 15 percent off eligible store items and 20 percent off Walgreens, Nice! and W brand products.
