Oakland County Picks ASTI For Brownfield Grant Management

BRIGHTON (WWJ) -- ASTI Environmental is one of five environmental consultants that have been selected by Oakland County to manage its$600,000 EPA Brownfield Assessment Grant -- $500,000 for hazardous substances and $100,000 for petroleum substances.

Among its responsibilities, ASTI will recruit investors and eligible projects to the county, focusing on Farmington Hills, Ferndale, Hazel Park, Madison Heights, Pontiac and Southfield, which will receive $60,000 each. The remaining $240,000 will be spread throughout the other 55 jurisdictions in Oakland County.

Companies and individuals seeking to buy or sell real estate in Oakland County or expand or relocate a business within the county are invited to work with ASTI on brownfield work. Projects that transform the county through job creation or reuse of brownfield sites will be given top priority. Current landowners that are not responsible for suspected contamination may also be eligible.

Available under the grant programs are full or partial funding for Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, Baseline Environmental Assessments, Due Care Plans, Remediation Options Analysis, Brownfield Plans, Hazardous Building Materials Surveys (Lead Based Paint, Asbestos), Above/Underground Storage Tank Assessments and Environmental Data Review.
