LANSING (WWJ) — The first official day of winter is still more than six weeks away, but Pure Michigan is gearing up for the cold weather tourism season with the launch of the 2013 Pure Michigan Winter Travel Guide.

Available online at, the guide offers ideas for winter travel activities for visitors and residents alike.

“The winter travel season in Michigan offers a tremendous variety of activities and adventures found across the state,” said George Zimmermann, vice president of Travel Michigan, part of the Michigan Economic Development Corp. “This free, winter travel guide provides the perfect playbook whether you are looking for an adrenaline rush, a family-friendly outing or a relaxing weekend away when the snow starts to fall.”

Individuals can request a copy of the 2013 Pure Michigan Winter Travel Guide at or by calling toll-free (888) 784-7328.

The guide will also be available at the 14 Michigan Welcome Centers across the state as well as in a free, universally accessible digital edition, which will allow users to access the guide from their desktop and laptop computers, smartphones and tablets.

The winter travel guide offers Michigan Moments — a collection of memorable moments to experience in the state. Feature stories include Best in Snow suggesting the wide variety of ways to experience winter in Michigan; Winter in the City, offering winter stops in Michigan’s urban centers; Trail Blazers featuring trails from snowmobiles to downhill skiing; and, Relaxing and Rich for those who prefer to spend the winter months indulging indoors.

The publication also includes a guide to Michigan state parks and trails and a winter events calendar. This year, 100,000 copies of the winter guide have been printed at Quad Graphics in Midland.

The Pure Michigan Moments Photo Contest is also under way. Voting on the photos will begin Monday, Nov. 11 and run through midnight on Sunday, Nov. 17. The winning photograph will be included in the 2014 spring/summer Pure Michigan Travel Guide.
