Drunk Driver Allegedly Tells Cops: U-M Football Drove Me To Drink

What's the best excuse you've used while getting in trouble? One University of Michigan football fan took it to a whole other level.

In a report from the Dearborn Press and Guide, the 25-year-old man was found passed out in his car at a Sunoco gas station in Dearborn at 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 3, the day following Michigan's 29-6 loss to the Michigan State Spartans.

An employee of the gas station called authorities after he realized that the man's Chevy Cruze had been sitting in the lot of the gas station for about an hour and a half. After approaching the car, the employee reportedly found the man passed out in a puddle of his own urine.

When police arrived, they said the man regained consciousness and explained he had too much to drink. The reason? He told cops he was upset because of the loss that Michigan suffered the night before. He specifically cited that he was unhappy with the play-calling of Michigan offensive coordinator Al Borges and Michigan's anemic rushing performance, totaling -48 yards.

The man blew a 0.24 BAC during a breathalyzer test, which qualified as "super drunk" under Michigan law. To gauge that level of drunkenness, note that .08 is the threshold for drunken driving, and he was three times over that. Michigan law states,

While the fines for traditional drunk driving are $100-$500, the fines for Super Drunk are $200-$700. In addition, a person charged with Super Drunk driving is required to receive alcohol treatment for at least one year. 

We can only hope he decided to stay home following Michigan's 17-13 loss to Nebraska this past weekend...
