Police Search For Man Who Opened Fire At Benihana Restaurant In Dearborn

DEARBORN (WWJ) – Police are searching for the gunman who opened fire at a popular Dearborn restaurant.

Police were called to Benihana Restaurant on Hubbard, near the Fairlane Town Center mall, after a fight broke out around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived, the found a 43-year-old Ann Arbor man suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach, but no sign of the gunman. Despite the restaurant being “packed” at the time of the shooting, no other injuries were reported.

The victim, who was not identified, was rushed to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition.

Police are following up on leads, but say a preliminary investigation indicates that this was not a random act. Police believe the suspect and the victim know each other and may have been acquainted in the past.

The suspect is described as a black male in his mid 20s, approximately 6 feet, 2 inches tall with a medium build, wearing light-colored pants and a dark jacket.

Dearborn Police Chief Ron Haddad said further information will be released as it becomes available.

Anyone with information on the incident or the suspect is asked to contact Dearborn police at 313-943-2078.
