Bus Company To Begin Rides To Metro Airport

DETROIT (WWJ) - It's a new way to get to the airport this upcoming Thanksgiving holiday season.

It's a pilot program by the Detroit Bus Company. On Wednesday before and the Sunday after Thanksgiving, they'll be running a shuttle bus to and from the airport for just $12 each way. The bus company's John Notorianni says it's about time.

"It's been years since there have been any reliable way, other than Metro Taxi and Metro Cars, to get to the airport. And those things work really well for the business class, but there's a huge population of people that are going in and out of Detroit Metropolitan Airport every day that just don't have an affordable way to get there. So they either need to call their friends and get rides or take the city bus, which takes a long, long time," says Notorianni.

Buses will run about 12 to 14 hours a day, with a bus coming through every hour.

"I actually fly a fair amount and every time that I go to the airport I'm either calling a friend or putting my car in parking at the airport. And every time I go, I'm just, 'there has to be an easier way to do this'," says Notorianni.

The buses will have free Wi-Fi and free coffee and will run from Detroit and Royal Oak.

"We see this as a pilot and we're just going to try something new and see how it works and just give it a go," says Notorianni.

Travelers can sign-up beginning next Tuesday at TheDetroitBus.com
