Sparks Fly Between Lance And Harper In "The Best Man Holiday"

HOLLYWOOD (WWJ) - While some sequels are best left unmade, filmmaker Malcolm D. Lee succeeds with the follow-up to his 1999 hit, "The Best Man." Nearly 15 years after that film hit the Big Screen, Lee returns with the anxiously-awaited, "The Best Man Holiday."

"The Best Man Holiday" brings back all the characters from the first film who were, at that time, a group of friends in college. This time around, however, the longtime buddies - Harper, Lance, Mia, Shelby, Murch, Robyn, Jordan, Quentin and Candy (now Candace) - are well into their careers. Mia, who married Lance in the first film, invites everyone to their home for a Christmas get-together. Hence, the film's title: "The Best Man Holiday."

Fans of "The Best Man" will find a lot to like about "The Best Man Holiday." One of my favorites (ladies, you'll be able to relate!) is Lance's (Morris Chestnut's) abs! Whew! That's one brother who has been workin' out! There's also a new cutie in the house: Eddie Cibrian, who portrays Jordan's boyfriend, Brian.

With so many sparks flying in "The Best Man," you already know to expect plenty of conflict in "The Best Man Holiday," and you already know most of it centers around the close to 15-year-long strained relationship between Lance and Harper (Taye Diggs).

But, so as not to give the storyline away (I would never do that!), suffice it to say that moviegoers who enjoyed "The Best Man" will find plenty of reasons to feel the same way about "The Best Man Holiday." Watching it provides a nice opportunity to "get away from it all" -- if just for a couple of hours or so.

Rated R.

See you at the movies!
