Red Wings Sign Six-Year Extension With Jonathan Ericsson

By Ashley Dunkak

DETROIT (CBS DETROIT) – The Detroit Red Wings announced on Twitter that defenseman Jonathan Ericsson, who was eligible for unrestricted free agency this summer, will be finishing out the decade in Detroit.

Ericsson is in his sixth season with the Red Wings currently, and he is now locked in for six more.

The Red Wings drafted Ericsson, a native of Sweden, in the ninth round of the 2002 draft. While he has not scored often, he had double-digit assists in three seasons. Ericsson has also consistently contributed between 15 and 20 minutes of time of the ice in each season of his career, and his penalty minutes have steadily declined since the 2010-2011 season.
