Ian Kinsler To Wear #3 For Detroit Tigers

By: Evan Jankens

It’s like 1984 all over again — I’m a 1-year-old and starting to grow hair — Lou Whitaker is playing second, and Alan Trammel is manning the middle at short. The only problem is it’s 2013 and Lou and Tram are far removed.

Until today, number three hadn’t been worn by the Tigers since Gary Sheffield wore it with the Tigers in 2007 and 2008.

On Monday, the Tigers announced via their Twitter that the newest Tiger Ian Kinsler would wear number three.

Why is this news you ask? Jose Iglesias started wearing number 1 when he was traded to the Tigers and that number had not been worn since Lou Whitaker did from 1977-1995.

Now the Tigers will once again have numbers one and three up the middle just in reverse order.

Kinsler had previously wore number five for the Texas Rangers. The Tigers have retired five in honor or hall-of-famer Hank Greenberg.

Do you mind Ian Kinsler wearing Alan Trammell’s old number?
