Macomb Community College To Host Robotics, Engineering and Technology Days

WARREN (WWJ) -- More than 1,700 students in grades 6-12 will participate in Robotics, Engineering and Technology Days at Macomb Community College Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 3 and 4.

The event will feature hands-on activities related to engineering, underwater robotics, mechatronics, renewable energy, electric vehicles, communications technology, banking technology and cyber security.

This event helps introduce students to occupations requiring science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills. Students will meet professionals who work in those fields and learn about their jobs.

According to a June 2013 report from the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, some of the fastest-growing occupations through 2020 will be in STEM-related fields. An earlier Georgetown study found that Michigan will have about 274,000 STEM-related jobs by 2018.

The event is sponsored by Macomb Community College, along with its Center for Advanced Automotive Technology, in conjunction with the National Science Foundation and the Macomb Intermediate School District. The event is also supported by AT&T, the DTE Energy Foundation, Genisys Credit Union, Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union, Oakland University and its School of Engineering and Computer Science, SME Education Foundation and Square One Network.

The event will run Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be held at Macomb Community College's Sports and Expo Center, at the northwest corner of Hayes and Martin roads, on the college's South Campus in Warren.
