45 Arrested In Detroit During Raid By Multiple Police Agencies

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police conduct another major raid at an apartment complex arresting dozens of people.

The Detroit police chief warned that this raid "Super 6" would be bigger than the one last month.  And it was. Nearly 200 officers from several law enforcement agencies were part of this operation including the FBI, U.S. Marshalls and State Police.

The raid took place at the Martin Luther King apartment complex-which stretches a few blocks on Layfayette between St. Aubin off Chene,  on the east side reports Newsradio 950's Stephanie Davis.

Detroit Police Commander Elvin Barren at the scene:

"We have about 45 arrests including probation violations, parole violations, traffic warrants, there's a CCW arrest," said Barren. "So citizens here are very excited."

"It was a successful operation. We're going to be back. As we always come back to make sure those who feast on the productive citizens ... we're going to come back," he said.

Illegal drugs and weapons were recovered.

"There is gang activity in this area - there are individuals who loiter in this area - there's a party store here that is a haven for criminal activity. So these were all the areas that were on our radar ..." Barren added.

Last month Detroit police raided an apartment complex on Jefferson where 32 people were taken into custody.
