Coast Guard Searching After Phone, Clothes Found On Belle Isle Bridge
DETROIT (WWJ) - The U.S. Coast Guard is searching the Detroit River near Belle Isle for a potential missing person.
The search was ordered early Thursday morning after police received a 911 call from a concerned citizen who found several items of clothing and a cell phone in the pedestrian lane on the east side of the Belle Isle bridge.
Officials said they're not sure if someone jumped into the water or just left the items behind, so they're searching out of caution.
Reporting live from the scene, WWJ's Mike Campbell said crime scene detectives were assisting police in their investigation, indicating something potentially sinister might have happened. However, officers declined to comment on the situation.
An investigation is ongoing.
