Dave Bing To Give Final Address As Detroit Mayor

DETROIT (AP) - Dave Bing is to give his final speech as mayor before the Detroit Economic Club.

Bing's plans to talk Wednesday about challenges he's faced and accomplishments during his four years at City Hall. The event is at the Westin Book Cadillac hotel.

His role as mayor was reduced when Gov. Rick Snyder appointed Kevyn Orr as emergency manager in March. Orr has control over city finances and successfully petitioned a federal court to allow Detroit into bankruptcy.

Bing, a professional basketball Hall-of-Famer and former steel supply company owner, decided not to seek re-election. Mayor-elect Mike Duggan takes office in January.

Bing was elected in May 2009 to complete ex-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's second term. Detroit voters elected Bing to full, 4-year term that November.
