Several Injured In Multi-Vehicle, Rollover Crash On I-96

DETROIT (WWJ) – Rescue crews have transported as many as four people to the hospital following a serious rollover accident on I-96 on Detroit’s west side.

The multi-car accident happened around 5:50 a.m. Friday on westbound I-96 near Wyoming Street.

According to Michigan State Police, a silver Chrysler Sebring stuck a four-door Pontiac sedan, forcing the Pontiac into a Ford Ranger. The Ranger overturned on the freeway and was struck by what is believed to be five other vehicles, including a Mini Cooper and a semi-truck.

At least four people were transported to a local hospital for treatment of what were described as non-life threatening injuries.

Police say alcohol involvement and seatbelt use are under investigation.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact police at 248-584-5782.

The freeway was closed for about two hours, but has since reopened.
