Explosion At Steel Plant In Ecorse Kills Worker

ECORSE (WWJ/AP) – United States Steel says an explosion at a plant in Ecorse has killed one worker, and operations have halted while an investigation begins.

Company spokeswoman Courtney Boone says that the accident happened overnight at U.S. Steel Great Lakes Works. Boone says there was an explosion at the plant’s steel shop, which killed a remote control locomotive operator.

The company has identified him as 32-Antonino Palazzolo from Rockwood who had been with the company about two years.

She says two other workers sustained minor injuries.
