White House Christmas Card Has Touch Of Michigan
GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ) - The White House greeting card that was sent throughout the country has Michigan fingerprints all over it. President Obama's 2013 card was designed by graphic artist Chris Hankinson of Hilltop Studios in Grand Rapids.
Hankinson says this was a dream come true for him ... after he just missed out on the opportunity last year
"This card was actually designed last year, it was for last year's card. They ended up going with another artist - so I thought I missed my opportunity," Hankinson said.
Hankinson says he did have to make a last-minute change to the card after the Obama family adopted a second dog.
"We added Bo, and then about a week and a half later they called me and said that they got another dog, we had to work Sunny in there as well," he said.
The pop-up card has a three-dimensional image of the White House and the first family's two dogs.
Even the hand folding of the cards was done in state at Handy Bindery Company in Clinton Township.
It was signed by Barack and Michelle Obama and daughters, Malia and Sasha.
