Man Who Allegedly Fled Crash Scene Had License Suspended 6 Times

MACOMB TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A Macomb County man, who's had his driver's license suspended six times, is accused of causing a Christmas Day crash.

According to witnesses, the driver of a silver 2005 Ford Explorer lost control of his vehicle at the  intersection of 23 Mile Road and Romeo Plank, struck another vehicle, and fled the scene.

Witnesses, who were able to jot down the license plate number, called police.

Sheriff's deputies found the suspect, a 34-year old Centerline man, a short time later — "hiding in a bedroom" at his brother's house in Macomb Township.

The suspect is facing charges of driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident, and resisting arrest.  His brother, the registered owner of the SUV, faces a charge of harboring a fugitive.  The vehicle was impounded.

No injuries were reported from the accident.

The suspect remained lodged on Thursday at the Macomb County Jail, awaiting formal arraignment.

No names were released.
