2013 Mich. Population Up Slightly At 9.9 Million

LANSING (AP) - The U.S. Census says Michigan's population rose in the past year, but at a rate below the nation's.

The bureau said Monday that Michigan had about 9.9 million people on July 1, 2013. It says the state's estimated population rose by 13,103 from the year before, an increase of one-tenth of a percent.

The bureau says the U.S. population rose 0.7 percent to about 316 million in the 12-month period. The new figures place Michigan ninth in the nation, about 48,000 ahead of 10th-place North Carolina.

The Census Bureau's exact estimate of Michigan's population for July 2013 is 9,895,622. That compares with 9,882,519 a year earlier.

Michigan's population also rose slightly from 2011 to 2012 after seven years of decline.
