Don't Drive Drunk On New Year's Eve! Call One Of These Designated Drivers

DETROIT (WWJ) - Thousands across Metro Detroit will be celebrating this New Year's Eve but police are issuing a strict warning: Don't even think about driving drunk.

Law enforcement agencies across the region are stepping up drunk driving patrols Tuesday night as part of a crackdown to keep impaired drivers off the road as 2014 begins.

Traditionally on New Year's, drunk and impaired driving violations increase 112 percent compared to the rest of the year, according to data reports.

Police say that anyone who plans to party on New Year's Eve should designated a sober driver in advance or consider other options on how to get home safely, such as taking a cab or spending the night.

There are also several local "designated driver" services which provide ways for you and your vehicle to return home safely after a night of drinking.
