DETROIT (CBS DETROIT) – Might San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt have some competition for the Detroit Lions head coaching job after all?

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden has no NFL head coaching experience, but the Lions are apparently one of several teams requesting permission to talk with Gruden.

Gruden, the brother of ESPN analyst and former NFL head coach Jon Gruden, won a Super Bowl ring with Tampa Bay as an assistant when Jon was the head coach there. Jay has head coaching experience in the AFL and the UFL, two lower-level professional football leagues.
